The allure of our coinage is something that we understand and appreciate. We are Life Members of the American Numismatic Association and also Life Members of the Society for United States Commemorative Coins. We began selling commemorative coins and holders in 1979. Our interest in the classical commemorative series of coins, those from 1892 to 1954, began in the 1960's. Acquiring several coins still housed in their original holders back in 1975 piqued our interest in these unusual items, and it has never abated since that time. Our main interest lies in these coins and in their original holders, which is why we created this website.
Many of these original holders are MUCH scarcer than the coins that they distributed. For example, acquiring one of the 142,080 Huguenot Commemorative Half Dollars minted in 1924 is not a difficult task, yet I have seen exactly ONE original holder for this coin in nearly 30 years of looking for them. Which would you rather have?
These pieces of wood, cardboard, paper or velvet were not intended to survive and remain with the coins. They were simply intended to distribute the coins. There are certainly unknown and unrecorded commemorative holders, long separated from their coins, still somewhere available. That is the allure of collecting these wonderful and mysterious items!
